Finding Common Ground: A Series Dedicated to Building Solidarity Between African American and Immigrant Communities

presents a session on Racism as a Means of Controlling Labor

Sunday, September 7, 4-6pm
Busboys and Poets
14th and V Streets, NW Washington D.C.

Racism has long served U.S. elites as a means of sowing division among working people who collectively have the power to upset the corporate order. Join us for a discussion of how racism works to create divisions
among workers and of how racial oppression reinforces class inequality. We will have presenters from a diverse set of organizations who are each grappling with the challenges of organizing workers across lines of
difference, whether those of color, language, or culture. Panelists will include those working to organize day laborers and low-wage workers, as well
as the challenges posed to labor unions.

This event will feature small group discussion as well as a chance to ask questions of our panelists and respond to what they and members of the
audience have to say.

The 4-month series 'Finding Common Ground' is sponsored by Busboys and Poets, the DC Alliance for Immigrant Justice, and the Metro D.C. Interfaith Sanctuary Network. These events are part of the A.C.T.O.R. series (A Continuing Talk On Race)at Busboys and Poets
