Call-In Day: Tell Bain Capital to Put Kids First

13 Aug 2008 - 3:00pm
14 Aug 2008 - 3:59pm

Please support SEIU and the Kids First campaign by participating in this National Call in Day.

WHAT: Make a call to Bain Capital Managing Director, Josh Bekenstein and tell him that Bain Capital must "Put Kids First"
WHEN: Wednesday, August 13th & Thursday, August 14th
HOW: Call Josh Bekenstein at (617) 516-2000.

In May, the private equity giant Bain Capital bought Bright Horizons, the nation's third-largest for-profit child care provider. Our coalition of parents, child care professionals, union members and community members are determined to hold Bain accountable for the quality care provided at Bright Horizons and the quality of the working conditions for their staff. Bright Horizons serves some 70,000 children in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The company employs more than 16,000 people in the U.S. and salaries average a mere $25,449/year for teachers - which means some staff are paid even less. Bain Capital's track record includes a list of companies that filed for bankruptcy during or soon after their years in the Bain portfolio.

We want Bain Capital to:
1. Give parents and teachers a seat at the table in decisions about the future of Bright Horizons.
2. Improve the quality of care, which includes making Bright Horizons jobs good jobs.
3. Be open and honest about plans for changes at Bright Horizons.
4. Commit to investing in the centers, their staff and the overall improvement of Bright Horizons centers - for the children who go there and for the staff who care for them.
